LA to AZ

Postby Christina on Fri Mar 13, 2009 6:23 pm

Hi ya'll! I am heading off to AZ for a week to visit the fam, go to some hot springs and swimmin holes! We will be in the Phoenix area the first few days then in the Tucson area the last. In Tucson I hope to eat http://www.lovinspoonfuls.com for every meal (and not just because the name is adorable..)! But I was wondering if there are any other secret spots I should know about, not only in those specific cities but any surrounding locations!!

I haven't been there in like 4 years, but

International Vegetarian House
3239 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix Arizona 85018
602-264-3480

I still think about their Lemon Grass Chiken.

There was this other little Cafe inside of a Natural Super Market in Tempe on the popular drag next to the university, but I'm not sure if its still there.

If you're wanting to do an easy easy easy hike with awesome views drive up to Troon North (outside of Scottsdale) and hike Pinnacle Peak.

Troon is like this master planned community where all the crap retail is tucked away behind large hedges. When you imagine Phoenix in a dream its really what Troon North looks like. Hike there and then stop at the Four Seasons for a drink afterward.

i have never been to AZ, but someone wrote in to my blog to suggest some places. this is what they said,

"I just returned from a trip to visit family in Arizona and we went to two incredible vegan restaurants that I thought you should know about just in case you were ever in the Phoenix area. So this may be quite random, but ya never know! The first was a place a bit more high-end, but it's all organic and 100% vegan, by the name of Mandala Tea Room. The tea crumpets, which are like a vegan bruschetta plate, are amazing, and their fresh pastries are... again... amazing. The second place is called Green, and is a more diner-styled restaurant, but their menu is extensive and very much so "comfort" food dominated. What is really great there is the soy frozen soft serve, which they call Soynami and they have all these toppings to mix in, cold-stone style, almost similar to a healthy McFlurry, but really incomparable to that. We didnt get a chance to go to all the places you guys suggested and I really wanted to go to that tea house with the yummy cakes! But It was more than enough good food and even though we didn't choose the most healthy options it really balanced out all the crap like del taco and green burrito we were eating on the road!!
