Doomie's Home Cookin' Veggie-Vegan (in transition)

Went to Doomies last night for my birthday. I was in the mood for some fried vegan goodness, and doomies majorly delivered.
It was freezing outside so we sat inside, and it definitely fits the phrase dive bar. Outside the patio looked really nice, with a nice view of china town. Inside they had a couple booths and tables were just sitting in the middle of the dance floor, pretty random, next to the big speakers, but i liked it. Reminded me of NY nightclubs. Dont let the looks affect your visit though, the food was awesome. We ordered a bunch of stuff to try and it was all good. Onion rings, mac and cheese, chocolate milkshake, fried chicken, pot roast, chicken fried steak. Heres a couple pics.

It was a great birthday dinner. Doomie actually came out from the kitchen and ate with us for a while. My wife was asking him if he ever had done any vegan catfish before and he was like 'i'll go try to make some right now' ... and came back in a few minutes with some breaded vegan catfish for us to try. It was really good. It was a cool vibe, just chillin with the chef talkin about his restaurant. We were there right before they closed, they are only open until 8pm. Next time we will probably go early and chill out on the patio.
unfortunately they were out of the vegan twinkees to try, i'll have to go grab some later.
:D

Yo Soy gave it a shite review:

http://yosoyblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/n ... -hype.html

But I've had that same problem when things are over-hyped. You go there expecting amazing stuff, and when it's average it's a big letdown. Though I would agree on the mac and cheese. I've never really liked it either, but I'm not a big fan of fake cheese.

hey everyone , i new to this board...

i'm pretty sure i go to doomies more than anyone ,
i run a recording studio about 2 blocks away and i work with a lot of vegan punk and hardcore bands from out of town , so of course i've been taking them to doomies since it opened in october..

just wanted to give you guys some updates!

doomie is workng on some "Secret" menu items so when you're there be sure to ask if they are available on that night!

so far i've tried the
hot fries (basically spicy fries, pretty good!)
and
SHRIMP TACO'S! (taco truck style with vegan baja sauce and awesome salsa! my new fav for sure)

he also has :
empanadas
chimichangas

and i'm sure some more stuff, he's a awesome dude who loves to talk about the food, so just ask if he's working on anything new and half the time he'll head into the kitchen and whip you up a sample!..

hope this helps :)

ps: the nacho's that just made it to the menu are AMAZING

well he wants to have a consistant "secret menu" that will probably be posted on the myspace page, as for now i think you just have to ask him if they have them .

whenever i go , i always make sure to ask if they are working on any new secret off menu items,

the empanadas were not there on my last visit but a buddy of mine was able to try them another day and said they were great!
i think they have chicken and beef..

anyways, the shrimp taco must be tried by all!

That sux! My husband & I dropped by a couple of Saturdays ago for lunch and the place was closed (this was around noon-time). As I was peering inside the windows a guy came up the elevator and said he worked there and had just been in a car accident on the way in (was raining that morning). Apparently another employee was already inside, he went in and opened the doors and offered to open the kitchen for us since they were suppose to be open for the day. We didn't want to inconvenience them so grabbed a menu and promised ourselves we'd visit again soon. Bummer. I hope they re-open soon and that all is ok.
