Doomie's Home Cookin' Veggie-Vegan (in transition)

from Doomie's myspace:

"Welcome to Doomie's Home Cookin Veggie Vegan Restaurant! We open on Oct 18th and are excited to be LA's newest veggie/vegan dining option. Our goal is to stay within the confines of vegetarian and vegan cooking while still being able to bring you tasty homestyle dishes. We are not one of the new veggie restaurants you've come to know, we are the old comfort foods you long to remember. We hope to blow your mind with our meat free versions of classic American diner fare."

i ate at this place the other day, and it is definitely my new favorite.

to be honest, we should really list this on vegan-la under VEGAN RESTAURANTS instead of vegan friendly, because every single item can be made vegan and only like 3 have the option of being vegetarian. go there now.

whaaaaaaaa? are you telling me i can't drink stella? for real? are fishes used in the process, or is fish an actual ingredient? because if it's used just in the process, i can count out old favorites like soda, leda's bakeshop cupcakes and soy ice cream. right? or is there more fish in stella than i know about?

There are plenty of better beers w/o it! Most wines are bad news, too. All Champagnes are supposedly vegan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isinglass

Although very little isinglass remains in the beer when it is drunk, many vegetarians consider beers (such as Guinness and almost all real ales), which are processed with these finings, to be unsuitable for vegetarian diets (although acceptable for pescetarians).

Here's an awesome site I use for my Vegan Drinks Meetup.com/vegandrinks

http://www.barnivore.com/

The last thing you want to do is get stressed out trying to avoid all these insane areas where animal products slip into commerce. Arm yourself with options, but don't stress the small stuff or you won't be a happy vegan. When eating out I NEVER even think about "are they using sugar processed with bone char?" but when I buy sugar at the grocery store I always get the vegan stuff.

agh!!! ok, i need to read up on this. thanks for the links!

i wonder if places like pure luck do their research when ordering stuff like 1903 (my fave). they do have some pretty hardcore beers though so i doubt it's all safe. hmm.

Unfortunately, we don't control the bar portion of the restaurant, as we are a restaurant located at Roberto's night club, so we have no say as to what alchohol we should carry. However, we will either make sure to put a disclaimer on the menu of the beers that are non vegan-friendly or inform upon ordering one of the non vegan-friendly beers that they are such. Sorry guys!

We are completely vegan except that some orders you have the option for real cheese and some the option of vegetarian bacon or vegan bacon (because the vege one is better!) And thank you for such great reviews :D

Did the Doomies today! Much like Vegan Village Internet Cafe, Doomies takes over a nightclub during the day. Its on the 2nd story of a building in China Town with nice views of the hills. Definitely a great and much needed vegan lunch spot in Downtown LA. Huge menu with endless sandwich options. I opt'd for the Vegan BLT. Their vegan bacon is really amazing. Breads are fantastic and definitely hands down the best Vegan Onion rings. Chef Doomie is there to take care of your down home cook'n vegan needs! He goes way overboard with his vegan creations, you'll be impressed for sure! He makes vegan clams for clam chowder for instance!
